An event was organized by Al Sadiq Islamic English School on the October 3, 2019 at 1 pm. It was an introduction to the Word Scholar’s Cup, an International E
ducation program introduced by Ms. Menn and Ms. Olivia. The event took place in the school library, where year 9, 10 and 11 students were invited.
Ms. Olivia and the students were warmly greeted by each other. The session began with the first question as What was she holding in her hand? One of the students replied saying “Alpaca!” and it was right indeed. It is the unique mascot of World Scholar’s Cup known as Jerry, the alpaca.
The students, who will in future become scholars when participate in WSC, were spoken about how the program has two divisions categorized by age, the junior division from 10-13 years and senior division 14+ years. It has six subjects: Social Studies, History, science, art and music, Literature and special area that changes every year. There are two rounds in WSC, the regional round and the global round and the four events which are team debate, scholar’s bowl, collaborative writing and scholars challenge. There are team and individual achievements. There are community discussions in which scholars can share their thoughts, cultural fair to share their traditions and the scholar’s show to share their talent. Like every year, this year’s theme is “A world on the margins”. WSC is one global community and there are alpacas for everyone! When participating in WSC, the scholars must be in a team of three as it teaches them how to collaborate and co-operate.
It is a wonderful opportunity given to the students by the school where the students can participate and explore their learning by working on their collaborative skills and team work. WSC is an educational program in which the students can not only show their talent but further discover their hidden talents.
